  Joan H. Fladie

PORTAGEVILLE – Mrs. Joan H Fladie, 63, of Main Street, who was last employed at Wyoming Rexall Drugs in Warsaw as a pharmacy technician before her retirement in 2005, died Wednesday (June 13, 2007) at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Warsaw Dec. 30, 1943, a daughter of the late Edward and Edna Sparks Hunsinger. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1961. After her marriage to Floyd W. Fladie on July 1, 1961, in Warsaw, the couple moved to Lockport, where they lived for 19 years. They moved back to Warsaw for a period of time before moving to Manheim, PA, for 10 years. They lived in Portageville for the past six years.

During her life, Mrs. Fladie had traveled with her husband around the country in the long haul trucking business, was a nursery school teacher at the Sunbeam Nursery School at the Warsaw Baptist Church and was a church secretary for the Calvary Baptist Church in Lockport. She belonged to the Castile Baptist Church and was always active in her churches having been a Sunday school teacher and a Vacation Bible School worker. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles in her spare time.

In addition to her husband of 46 years, survivors include two sons, John (Debbie) Fladie of Portageville and Adam (Becky) Fladie of Oneida, TN; a brother, Charles (Virginia) Hunsinger of Silver Springs; a sister, Marilyn (Robert) Wright of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter-in-law, Karen Fladie of Varysburg; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Floyd W. Fladie, Jr., in 1998; and a sister, Alice Warren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Sunday at the Castile Baptist Church, where services will be at 1 PM Monday. The Rev. Thomas Horner will officiate. Burial will be at Portageville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Castile Baptist Church Playground Fund. Arrangements were by the Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 North Main St., Castile.
